Customer Requirement
JLR approached CSD as they required an automated system to efficiently manage the movement of battery rigging kits within their vehicle production line. The solution needed to transport rigging kits from the unload station to the load station and return empty platens back to the start of the line, while supporting multiple battery types with differing specifications.
Project Challenge
The key challenge was ensuring accurate identification and routing of different rigging kits within a single recirculation system. The solution also needed to integrate operator interaction, reliable sensing, and smooth platen recirculation, all while maintaining a compact and robust design suitable for continuous production.
CSD’s Automated Manufacturing Solution
We designed, manufactured, installed, and commissioned a bespoke rigging kit recirculation conveyor complete with integrated lift, RFID identification, and automated routing. The system uses RFID Tag Readers to control platen movement, ensuring each rigging kit is delivered to the correct loading area. Once unloaded, empty platens automatically recirculate back to the start, providing a seamless, efficient, and reliable solution that improves productivity and reduces the risk of operator error.
