Customer Requirement

Following successful completion of a range of projects for Jaguar Land Rover, CSD were asked to design, manufacture, install and commission a bespoke conveyor to transport wheel and tyres during vehicle manufacture. This was part of an upgrade to an existing Wheel and Tyre Delivery Conveyor System at the JLR manufacturing plant in Halewood.

Project Challenge

The biggest challenge to CSD during this project was the limited floor area in which the large structure bespoke conveyor was to be situated. The Design Team had to incorporate this into the design of the system and the Installation Team had to factor this into the install and commissioning whilst on site at Halewood.

The CSD Bespoke Conveyor Solution

Taking into account the available floor space, the CSD Team designed a helical conveyor with a central frame constructed from a rigid aluminium section core. This allowed the conveyor to be transported and placed into position as one piece ensuring a straightforward installation.

The part gravity and part powered bespoke conveyor is made up of individual sections which are mounted onto support brackets and attached to the uprights of the central frame.  Each of these sections has a bed of two runs of heavy duty steel rollers with side guides mounted to heavy duty steel frames. These are fitted with low friction steel skate wheels to effortlessly guide the wheels down the conveyor. For additional security, a goal post and top bar arrangement ensures the wheels remain on the conveyor bed.  The conveyor was fitted with easy to usual controls and enhanced safety functionality including guarding and emergency stop.
